Fun Ads too!

Usually I tune out advertisements in comic books (or anywhere else for that matter) but this issue had one that I not only noticed but actually read carefully and enjoyed – gasp! It was the mini-story about breast cancer awareness featuring Iron Man and Captain America. Have any of you noticed it? It totally reminded me of those old Hostess ads from the 1970s, and it had an important message and was pretty cool to boot! Anyway, it was just one more cool thing in this already cool issue.

To see what came before check out my review of Daredevil #18.

The action in Daredevil 19 picks up right where it left off last issue – with Matt and Foggy discussing some serious issues on the phone while Daredevil is checking out the dead drug lord’s digs. But as Matt leaps out of a window to get away from some thugs he realizes that he has forgotten something important: his billy club – eek! By the time he figures out what is going on and saves himself from dying a painful death he comes to the conclusion that perhaps he needs some help. Enter Hank Pym, who examines Matt’s brains from the inside and helps Daredevil figure out who is messing with his head. Meanwhile a drunken Foggy is letting secrets slip while talking to Matt’s girlfriend – the Assistant D.A. Gosh Foggy – have some self-control huh! Anyway, Daredevil rushes off to save a group of bad guys from another bad guy, and shows up just in time to get himself entangled with an old foe who has come back for revenge!

My 2 Cents:

  • Another issue of great art – from excellent pencils to nice, bold colors. The boys on Daredevil’s team are on a roll I tell ya!
  • Last issue’s cover was really cool, but this one made me laugh out loud when I finally saw the little joke! Can you find it too? (Click on the cover image for a larger version.)
  • Speaking of subtle humor, I loved the several parts in this issue which made me smile! Daredevil’s billy club incident, the phone call with Foggy, the sarcastic remarks from the bad guys and the final scene. Another example of a totally fun Daredevil story!

How I Rate This Issue:

  • Story: 5 stars
  • Art: 5 stars
  • Fun Factor: 5 stars
