Awkward Friendships

Have you ever been good friends with some one, maybe even best friends, and then had a bit of a falling out? I have. And you know what is even more unpleasant? Needing to deal with that ex-friend again because he or she is the only one who can help you. Yeah, I’ve been there too! Here is a story where Matt and Foggy are upset with each other but still require each other’s help. The bright side to all of this, however, is that it usually leads to a renewing of the friendship – let’s see what happens here shall we?

This issue begins with Foggy (who recently fired Matt) agreeing to take on the case of a man whose sister is suspected of killing a local drug lord. At the same time we see Matt Murdock return from a date only to find his ex-wife, Milla, in his apartment. That is strange because as far as he knows she is supposed to be locked up in the mental institution! Matt calls the only person he can trust – Foggy, who isn’t too happy to hear from Matt but agrees to help him if Daredevil will investigate the drug lord’s mysterious death. Matt agrees and goes snooping around only to find something equally strange (as in “just as strange as his ex-wife showing up”) happening there! Ooh – cue the “Twilight Zone” music!

My 2 Cents:

  • This cover has to be one of my all-time favorites! This whole series has been doing some absolutely great covers, but I especially loved this one with Daredevil outlined in blood vessels! Very, very cool!
  • The art throughout the book was good too! I very much enjoyed the detailed-yet-simple artistic style, combined with the bold colors. This team did an excellent job!
  • Mark Waid is one of my favorite writers, and this issue was another example of his extraordinary comic-crafting abilities! A unique case for Foggy and some very real hallucinations (maybe) for Matt – great stuff yet again!

How I Rate This Issue:

  • Story: 5 stars
  • Art: 5 stars
  • Fun Factor: 5 stars
