The Rebirth of Richie Rich!

Several months ago I learned that Richie Rich comics were being published again – and I was ecstatic! These were my all time favorite comic books when I was a kid, and I was sad when they quit publishing them. These new ones have been going on for about a year now, but I had heard nothing of them until I saw a small review in Comics Buyer’s Guide recently. I decided to give this new series a try – and I wasn’t disappointed!

Synopsis:

“Hero For A Day” : This issue has one big, main story and eight small, classic, one page stories. The main story, which is all new Richie Rich material, is about Richie and his team when they visit Professor Keenbean’s laboratory. The professor shows them his new virtual super-hero training computer, and they all give it a try. Each of the team members, plus PeeWee and Freckles, are transformed into heroes resembling famous Marvel and DC characters. As they explore the simulation something goes wrong and the team has to fight for real to get out of the dangerous situation.

The eight one pagers were all classic Richie Rich stories that have been cleaned up for modern publishing. So while the art is from decades ago it looks nice and crisp and colorful! It was fun reading some old Richie stories after seeing the new Richie in action.

My 2 Cents:

  • I was totally expecting to be disappointed with the new Richie Rich art – but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! I actually liked the modern look and thought the artists did a great job staying true to the characters. The modernized classic art looked great as well!
  • The main story was really cool! It was fun to read about the team’s adventures, and there were some funny references to famous characters from other comic companies. Again, I was very happy and had more fun reading this issue than I thought I would!
  • It was cool to see the re-imagining of many Richie Rich characters, but I was a little bit disappointed that Freckles and PeeWee (Richie’s 2 best friends) were introduced as Professor Keenbean’s lab assistants. Oh well, at least they got included in the story and turned out being funny additions!

How I Rate This Issue:

  • Story: 4 stars
  • Art: 4 stars
  • Fun Factor: 5 stars
