A New City!
I like to travel to new cities and places I’ve never seen before. And even though I’ve never been to Pittsburgh, it was fun to virtually visit that city as Peter and Mary Jane made their way past many of its sites! I think it is fun to see super heroes go to different places – as long as they don’t permanently stay there (I’m looking at you Daredevil in San Francisco!)
The end of last issue showed Peter Parker flying off to Pittsburgh to help Mary Jane with her family problems. This issue begins with web-head swinging his way around that city, and having a difficult time finding places. Eventually he gets to MJ’s sister’s house, and finds her arguing with the father that abandoned her years ago. Peter and Mary Jane are able to get away for a bit and see some of the city’s sites while she tells him that her father is responsible for her sister being in jail, and now he wants MJ’s help to steal an expensive manuscript! Peter is not happy when she finally agrees to help her father, but the two of them are able to retrieve the manuscript just in time for the Spider-slayer to burst in on the scene! It seems he traced Spider-man from New York, and Spidey, MJ and the Robot duke it out for several scenes. Just when our hero is about to die Mary Jane saves the day by distracting his foe – and that starts the love-juices flowing between the prospective couple! Later, when MJ tricks her dad into confessing to the authorities, Peter and Mary start back to New York. It is in the Pittsburgh airport that she finally agrees to marry Peter! Aw… so sweet!
How I Rate This Issue:
- Story: – Even though the stupid Spider-slayer was back, I still thought this was a better story than last issue. It was cool seeing MJ deal with her family, and Peter navigate the unfamiliar streets of Pittsburgh.
- Art: – This issue was also better than the last one when it comes to the art department! The panels were more crisp, the colors brighter and better suited, and the city sites were well rendered. This surprised me since JR Jr. wasn’t drawing – I thought it would end up worse, but no!
- Fun Factor: – There were several small things that made me enjoy this issue much more than the previous one – most of which I’ve mentioned above. But the final kicker was when MJ and Peter re-fell in love and she finally agreed to marry him!
