Another Classic Character

I remember Mayda Munny from the old, classic Richie Rich books – she was a spoiled girl who always wanted Richie to give her more attention, and was always jealous of his girlfriend Gloria. So I was delighted to see her resurrected in this issue of the modern Richie Rich series! I think the new creators did a good job staying true to her roots, while simultaneously giving her a modern make-over!

Synopsis:

“The Loch is the Key” : After reading issue #5 of this new series several months ago, I decided to try out some more and see if they were as good and fun as the first one. In this issue Richie’s Aunt Noovo goes missing in Scotland after searching for the Loch Ness monster. No problem, though, because the Rich Rescue team soon arrives looking for her! Well, there is a little bit of a problem – Mayda Munny also shows up with her own team of investigators and is intent on beating Richie to the punch… oh, and also wants Richie to be her boyfriend! Anyway, as the two teams look for Aunt Noovo it seems that Team Mayda keeps getting itself into troublesome situations that Team Rich must rescue them from. After working together the teams eventually find Richie’s aunt and also discover a robotic sham of a monster! All seems solved and after most of the people leave Richie shares the truth about the Loch Ness monster with his girlfriend Gloria: There is a real monster, which has a family, but the Rich family built the decoy to keep people away from them! Ahh, that Richie – what a clever kid from a clever family! See what kind of good you can do when you are absurdly wealthy? 😉

How I Rate This Issue:

  • Story: 3 stars – A rather average and clichéd storyline, but still a fun one to read – especially for kids.
  • Art: 4 stars – There was some really good and very cartoonish art in this issue. Again, it probably really appeals to kids – the true audience for this book.
  • Fun Factor: 3 stars – The cool art wasn’t enough to rescue a mediocre story, and this issue goes firmly in the ho-hum category.
